Installation Basics

Before contracting with a landscaper, or installer, every consumer should know and understand what is involved in the long term success of your installation. First and foremost, insurance. Verify that your landscaping company and its employees have the proper NYS business insurances. This way you will not end up on the local news as one of the financial victims of an otherwise unsavory character. Make sure you see a portfolio, get addresses, get names, and make sure the contractor you hire, has been around long enough to give you a comfort level that they will be there if you need them to return to the project at a later date. You can also ask local paving stone suppliers for their recommendations.

Base: Every patio should sit on a minimum of 6 inch properly layered base.
Sand: If weeds are not part of your goal, polymeric sand must be used.
Diamond Blade Cuts: If you have curves you need a walk laid out, and cut properly.
Soldier course: The difference between a walk/patio, and a beautiful walk/patio.

Remember, costs are fairly relative in this business. If it seems too good to be true, you are probably getting a lot less in many of the important steps to a good installation, and paying a little less for that privilege.
